59 Apps including TikTok banned in India

TikTok Banned in India: Indian Government has banned 59 apps in the country which are developed in China,including TikTok, UC Browser, We Chat amongst others.

The Government of India has 59 Chinese developed apps in India including major apps TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat, Shareit etc. The government has taken this action amidst border tensions between India and China.

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister of Law & Justice, Communications, Electronics & Information Technology in India tweeted saying, ‘For safety, security, defence, sovereignty & integrity of India and to protect data & privacy of people of India the Government has banned 59 mobile apps. Jai Hind!

There was an uproar in India recently against the use of popular social media app, TikTok, which saw its Google Play Store rating fall down to 1.9 stars after many Indians downloaded the app and gave a one star review. Google, later intervened and cleared all the reviews.
