Android 11 is focusing on People ( Communication and Conversations), Controls , Privacy.

People

There will be changes in Android in how the messages are displayed in the notifications. In the notifications shade when you swipe down, there will be a different section labelled ‘Conversations’ for message notifications from all the messaging apps including WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger. Rest of the notification will appear in different section below the messages sections.

You can now mark certain conversations as ‘Priority’ and also lets you break through from ‘Do Not Disturb’ setting.

Device Controls in Android 11 will let you control smart home devices like smart lights, manage payment methods and few others things by long pressing the power button. Once you long press the power button, a new control screen, which will display Payment methods, lists the smart devices connected to the phone and control it from that screen itself.

The options to Switch Off, Restart the phone and emergency call are still present.

Google has added media controls in the quick settings panel rather than being displayed as notification. It also allows you to change where the music will be played by easily selecting it. This looks much better and easy to use than in the notifications.

Privacy

Google has been implanting privacy controls and improvements and letting users decide what permissions to allow for each app. Android 11 will have more options to control the permissions, where only one time permission for camera, location etc can be given and next time the app is opened and needs access it will prompt for permission to use it.

The permissions will also ‘Auto-Reset’ for an app when it is not used for a long time and have to ask for permissions again.

Screen Recorder

Android 11 will now finally have in-built screen recorder and can be accessed from the quick setting panel much like what OnePlus had implemented in Oxygen OS. Tap the option in quick settings, this will allow record what is being shown on screen and also to record audio through microphone.

Voice Access

Voice Access has been an accessibility feature in Android through an app which allows to control the phone through your voice. Android 11 will improve the Voice Access using what Google says ‘on-device visual cortex‘ which will add more intelligence to voice access and control the phone in much better way for entering text or scrolling through the page.
