Asus Zenfone 7 Series is here with the flipping camera.

Asus has launched the Asus Zenfone 7 series and the flipping camera stays from Zenfone 6, but now has an additional camera lens

In 2019, Asus had launched the Zenfone 6 with a flipping camera module ,which worked as both rear and front camera, it was ASUS’ way of providing full screen without the notches or punch holes on the display for selfie cameras.

Asus has now launched the Asus Zenfone 7 Series, the Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro and the flipping cameras are still the way Asus have gone for, infact adding an additional lens as well. Zenfone 7 series specs are much improved as compared to the Zenfone 6.

ASUS Zenfone 7 Series Design & Display

ASUS Zenfone 7 series, Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro both have 6.67 inch FHD+ HDR10+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and 200Hz sampling rate. This is a far better display compared to Zenfone 6 which had a 60Hz LCD display. Though there could have been some difference between the 7 and 7 Pro like 120Hz Refresh rate or Quad HD resolution. The display is protected by the Gorilla Glass 6 protection.

With the flipping camera module, the display like the Zenfone 6, is full-screen without any notches or cut-outs to provide a great experience. Asus have opted for AMOLED screen but didn’t go with the in-screen optical fingerprint scanner and rather has the capacitive fingerprint scanner with the power button, which is situated on the right side of the phone along with the volume rocker. The left side of the phone has the SIM tray, which supports Dual Nano-SIM and MicroSD card slot.

ASUS Zenfone 7 Series Performance & Hardware

Zenfone 7 Pro has the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 Plus processor paired with Adreno 650 GPU which was used by Asus on the powerful gaming phone Asus ROG 3. There 6GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage option for Zenfone 7 and 8GB LPDRR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage option for Zenfone 7 Pro. Asus using Snapdragon 865 series chipset means, the Zenfone 7 series is 5G compatiable phones.

Now the distinctive feature of the Zenfone 7 series like the previous generation Zenfone 6, is the flip camera module. The flipping action basically flips the cameras 180 degrees which enables same module to be used as selfie cameras. The flip action is not just directly 180 degrees but can also stop at 90 or 135 degrees. Asus said they have improved the durability /reliability of the flipping hardware and claims that it can survives 200,000 flip or 100 flips per day.

The camera setup has 3 lens, a standard 64MP lens with Sony IMX686 sensor, 12MP Ultra-wide lens, 8MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom. Both the phones has same camera setup with the Pro model having OIS on main and telephoto lens while non-Pro model has EIS on these lens. In terms of video recording, both phones can record up to 8K 30 fps , 4K 30/60 fps and 1080p at 30/60 fps. But the Pro variant will have the advantage of OIS during the video recording.
