Poco’s Pocophone F1 was the first phone launched in 2018 and became an instant hit due to lower price and flagship specs priced at $300. Poco has now launched the Poco F2 Pro with Snapdragon 865, pop-up camera and Quad Rear Camera with a starting price of $499.

The Poco F2 Pro basically is a Redmi K30 Pro but the price of $499 in the US puts with along side OnePlus 8 which is similar spec’d but starts at $699.

Design & Display – It has a headphone jack

Poco F2 Pro has 6.67 inch 2400×1080 FHD+ with HDR10+ display which has no notch or punch hole since it has the pop-up front camera. It has the Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front and back and in-screen optical fingerprint scanner. But interestingly the display is a 60Hz instead of 90Hz or 120Hz which is a bit disappointing.

There is a 3.5mm headphone jack, we get to hardly see those in the devices nowadays and it also has a IR blaster if you are one of those who like to use it and NFC support as well. It has a quad rear camera at the back. The pop-up camera does have a drop protection as well.

It is available in 4 colours like the Redmi K30 Pro – Neon Blue, Electric Purple, Cyber Grey, Phantom White with Grey and purple having the matte finish.

Performance – Powered by Snapdragon 865

The phone has the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and Adreno 650 GPU which means a 5G support. It has LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage but it is only available for 8GB/256GB option. The 6GB/128GB still has the LPDDR4x RAM which might not be good enough spec hungry folks. It also the liquid cooling techology used by POCO on this device.

It has 4700mAh battery with 30W fast charging support with 33W Type C charger in the box. The 30W fast charging charge the phone from 0 to 64% in 30 minutes and 100% in approximately 1hr of charging . There is No wireless charging support.

The phone comes with Android 10 out of box which should be the standard now and has MIUI for Poco (Poco Launcher) on top of it. It still does not match with the smoothness of Oxygen OS by OnePlus on their devices.

It has a Dual SIM support but has dual standby only for 4G and Dual 5G is not supported.

The rear cameras are a quad camera setup with main lens being the 48MP f/1.8 lens with Sony IM686 Sensor, 13MP ultrawide camera with field of view of 123 degree, 5MP macro lens and 2MP depth sensor. It support video recording at 8K @24fps , 4k @60fps and a special mode Vlogs amongst other modes like cinematic mode etc.

Front camera has 20 MP lens with drop protection and support 120 fps slow motion.

The 6GB/128 GB option has the starting price of €499($499) while the 8GB/256GB option is available at €599.

Conclusion – Is is Really a Flagship Killer?

Poco F2 Pro is priced really well when compared to the specs it has, Snapdragon 865, Quad Camera, Notchless design, 5G support are all really good features for the price. But Poco (Xiaomi) should have at least 90Hz display which is becoming a standard in 2020 with phones even with 144Hz display in the market or OnePlus with 90Hz in all their phones since 2019. There is alos MIUI as well, yes it is better for POCO but it doesn’t compare with OnePlus’ Oxygen OS smoothness.

So it is really a flagship – you can say so if you compare the price to specs you are getting for the device but overall package not so much.

What you think about the POCO F2 Pro, is it priced well and is a flagship killer or you are OK to spend a bit more on the likes of OnePlus 8 series. Let us know in the comments.
